Every figure below was read from a price list a dental practice publishes itself. We read 1,440 London practice websites in full; 1,132 practices publish a price we could use — 47% of the register, and that, more than any single number here, is the finding.
Each bar spans that treatment’s own published range; the marked band is the middle half, the diamond the median. The last column is how many practices each figure rests on.

NHS band charges are set by the Department of Health and Social Care and are identical everywhere in England — they do not vary by borough. Private fees are set by each practice. A treatment marked “not on the NHS” is cosmetic, and only available privately.
Of the 18,734 fees we read across London, 768 are “from” prices. A “from” price is the cheapest possible case: the simplest tooth, the shortest appointment, the smallest arch. It is a legitimate figure and a useless one, because almost nobody pays it.
None of them sets a median here. Nor do another 1,801 fees priced for something narrower than the treatment they sit under — a temporary crown, a child's filling, a denture repair. All 2,569 still appear on the practice's own page, in the practice's own wording, with no comparison beside them, because they are real prices for real things.
A borough figure is only published where at least 10 practices there publish a price for that treatment. 31 of London's 33 boroughs now clear that bar on three or more treatments; for the rest, use the London figures above.

The starting list is the CQC register — every dental practice registered in Greater London, with the website address the practice gave the regulator. We visit that website, look for a fee page, and read it in full. Nothing is estimated and nothing is modelled.
That reading produced 18,734 individual fees across 1,132 practices and 37 treatments. Where a practice lists several variants of a treatment we take one figure for it, so a practice with a long price list counts once, not twenty times. Across practices we then take the 25th, 50th and 75th percentile.
2,569 of those fees — about one in seven — are priced for something narrower than the treatment they sit under: a temporary crown, a child's filling, a “from” price. They set no median and carry no comparison, but they stay on the practice's page in the practice's own wording.

Where do these prices come from?
Every figure is read from a price list the practice publishes itself, or from a public directory listing where it does not. 826 London practices publish a fee guide we could read; a further 306 were priced from public listings. Every fee on a practice page names which. Nothing here is estimated, modelled or supplied by a practice.
Why is the range so wide?
Because London is. We publish the 25th to the 75th percentile of what practices charge, so one budget clinic and one Harley Street outlier cannot distort what you expect to pay.
Why do you ignore “from” prices?
A “from” price is the cheapest possible case, not a price. Of the 18,734 fees we read, 768 are “from” prices. None of them sets a median on this page, and where one appears on a practice page it is shown in the practice's own wording with no comparison beside it.
How often is this updated?
The practice websites are re-read and the ranges recalculated monthly. This set was read on 25 August 2026.
