Dental Specialists

A specialist dentist has completed additional post-graduate training and is listed on one of the General Dental Council's 13 Specialist Lists. A specialist title is legally protected — only a dentist with the required postgraduate qualifications, entered on the relevant GDC list, may use it. You don't always need a specialist: most routine care is provided by general dentists, and a referral is worth seeking mainly for complex cases. The pages below explain, for each specialty, when a specialist genuinely helps, typical London costs, and how to verify a clinician on the public GDC register. We verify every specialist against the GDC register.
