How we rank practices
Short version: no practice can pay to appear higher. Ranking is by objective, disclosed criteria only — and here they are in full.
When you browse a borough or search a postcode, we order practices by:
- Distance from your postcode (postcode searches only) — nearest first.
- CQC registration status — every practice we list is on the CQC register.
- Price transparency — practices that have given us a verified, all-inclusive price list are shown with a a "Fee list on file" label.
- Completeness of information — listings with a phone number, website and opening details rank above sparse ones.
- Alphabetical order as the final tie-break, so ties are not decided by us.
That is the whole list. There is no hidden score, no editorial preference, and no paid boost.
We are free for patients, and we take no money from dental practices. There is no enquiry form on this site, no lead generation and no referral fee — so there is nothing a practice could pay us for even if it wanted to.
Two things follow from that, and we want them stated plainly:
- No practice can buy position. The order is set by the criteria above and nothing else.
- You are never charged, and we never take your details. When you want to speak to a practice you contact it directly, using its own telephone number from the CQC register.
| Information | Source |
|---|---|
| Practice name, address, CQC status | CQC public register |
| NHS band charges | NHS England / DHSC |
| Private price ranges in guides | Published UK practice fee lists |
| Practice fee lists on profiles | Read from the practice's own website |
| Dentist registration | GDC register (verify link on each profile) |
- We do not claim CQC ratings for dentists. CQC has no legal power to rate dental practices, so any site showing a dentist an "Outstanding" or "Good" badge is showing you something that does not exist. We show registration status and link to the real report.
- We do not publish "best dentist" rankings we cannot evidence.
- We do not display headline prices that hide compulsory extras. Prices we verify must include every mandatory cost.
- We do not write, buy or incentivise reviews.
Spotted something wrong? Tell us — we correct errors quickly and publicly.
We publish CQC information exactly as the regulator publishes it, with the inspection date and a link to the original report, and we re-check it regularly. We do not add our own judgement about the quality of any practice.
If a practice believes anything on its listing is wrong or out of date — CQC status, NHS availability, prices, contact details — email corrections@dentistfees.co.uk. We aim to review within two working days, correct anything inaccurate promptly, and remove the listing while we check if the point is disputed. Practices can also ask us to publish a short reply alongside their listing.
