Central London sits at the top of each range. Most people land £3,500–£4,500. Retainers £400–£600.
The wide range confuses people, but it's simple: fewer aligners and less monitoring means a lower tier and a lower price. Two things move your quote most — case complexity and the practice's postcode (central London rents push fees up). Don't compare headline "from" prices alone; check whether refinements and retainers are included, and ask about 0% finance for bigger cases.
A complete Invisalign price should cover the consultation and clinical assessment, a 3D digital scan, every aligner tray in the plan, mid-treatment check-ups, refinement aligners (extra trays if the first set doesn't finish the job), and at least one set of retainers. If a practice quotes separately for any of these, add them in before you compare.
Retainers aren't optional. Without one, teeth drift back whether you had aligners or fixed braces. Budget £100–£300 per arch if they're not included — fixed bonded retainers £150–£300, removable clear retainers £100–£200.
Other clear aligners. Spark, ClearCorrect and SureSmile work on the same principle and are often £500–£1,000 less than Invisalign — the brand carries less marketing overhead. Your dentist's experience matters more than the brand name.
Fixed braces. Metal braces £2,000–£4,500; ceramic £2,500–£5,500; lingual (hidden behind the teeth) £3,500–£8,500+. For complex bite correction or extractions, fixed braces give more precise control than any aligner. If a clinician recommends them over Invisalign, that's a clinical judgement, not a sales pitch.
At-home / mail-order aligners. The British Orthodontic Society, GDC and NHS England all warn against aligner treatment without in-person clinical assessment — moving teeth without X-rays and bone checks carries real risks. We don't list providers who treat without clinical oversight.
The NHS does not cover Invisalign. NHS orthodontics (fixed braces only) is free for under-18s who meet clinical thresholds; adult NHS orthodontic treatment is rare and limited to severe cases through hospital referral. Pooling seven randomised trials covering 402 patients found no significant difference in pain between clear aligners and fixed braces, and no difference in quality of life.
Aligners scored better on two specific measures of final tooth position. Treatment time showed no consistent pattern — one trial found Invisalign took significantly longer than braces. The comfort advantage aligners are marketed on did not show up in the pooled results.
